Darlene Nixon has always shown a passion for writing, enjoying her God-given talent in numerous venues. She wrote as a news reporter for The News Leader newspaper in Royston, Georgia, as well as the Athens Daily News. Her first novel, Singing Down the Preacher, was published in 2011. Singing Down the Preacher details a fictional presentation of Darlene's Melungeon ancestry from Eastern Kentucky to Southern Indiana. Additionally, she continues to share Christ's message of love, faith and hope through the regular newsletter message for Hart Habitat.
Originally from a small farming community in Southern Indiana, she now resides in Northeast Georgia with her husband, Hubert. The couple boasts two daughters and seven grandchildren. They are active members of their Hart County Church, Serenity Baptist.
Darlene's professional experience is in banking and journalism. Before tackling her position of Executive Director for Hart County Habitat for Humanity, Nixon served the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate since 2006 as both volunteer and board member.
Through this project Darlene hopes to further awareness of Habitat for Humanity's vision, and further its mission by donating a 10% of book revenue to Habitat for Humanity.
Through the work of Habitat for Humanity, hundreds of thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Companies, churches, community groups, governments and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem - safe, decent, affordable housing for all.
Habitat has built, rehabilitated and repaired homes with millions of people in thousands of communities in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Eastern and Western Europe, and throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
